January 2004 – Digital Power announce the introduction of their latest ultra-high power density switch mode power supply, the eF175. The Salisbury based power supply manufacturer believes the quad output eF175 is a landmark in component power supplies offering 175 watts of output power from the industry standard 3.3” x 5” (84mm x 127mm) footprint. This remarkable power density is the result of utilising Digital’s military design experience and employing state-of the art power switching techniques. The PCB layout, transformer design and thermal management have all been derived from military projects. The ultra-high efficiency comes from a combination of a fixed high switching frequency, 100KHz, full synchronous rectification on the two main outputs and _ synchronous rectification on the two auxiliaries. Losses are further minimised by employing a single controller for the two main outputs that allows up to 15A to be drawn from each. This is the latest introduction into the eF series of ultra-compact power supplies which includes the highly innovative eF306, a quad output, 300watt unit which packs an amazing 10 watts per cubic inch into a 1U high chassis. The eF175 features a worldwide universal input voltage range from 85 to 264VAC and employs active power factor correction to typically 0.98 at full load with either 110 or 230V inputs. All models are CE marked and certified to EN-60950, UL1950 and meet EN55022 class B for conducted emissions. MTBF is calculated to be greater than 750,000 hours. 250 LFM airflow is required for full output power, while convection cooling will provide 100W over the temperature range –5° to +50°C, after which the unit will derate linearly at 2.5% per degree up to 70°C. Input and output connections are made via standard molex connectors and all models are protected against over temperature, overload, over-voltage and output short-circuit. The 1U chassis height and compact dimensions of the eF175 make it suitable for applications such as; telecomms, data networking, industrial computers, instrumentation, industrial control and process automation. These four output power supplies offer output voltages over the range 3.3 to 15VDC at currents of up to 15A. Customer specific output voltages can be provided upon request. Jake Moir, MD of Digital comments “the
eF175 is a unique product which will allow us to help our customers in
their constant need to get more power from ever smaller enclosures. The
extremely small size of this product will release valuable space for
functional circuitry and make their own systems better value for money.” |
