March, 2004

March 2004 – Digital Power Electronics announce the introduction a new addition to their market leading range of ultra-high power density switch mode power supplies. The eF175-200 is a new series of open-frame dual output models based on the recently introduced family of quad output eF175-4xx. A fresh look at the topology of the existing 175 watt models now means that the eF175-200 can produce a remarkable 200 watts of output power from the industry standard 3.3” x 5” (84mm x 127mm) footprint.

The eF175-200 is the latest addition to Digital’s “flexibility” series of power supplies, which may be manufactured with customer specific outputs, with no charge being made for Non Recurring Engineering (NRE) or additional safety agency costs. There is no large minimum order requirement and lead-times are greatly reduced over conventional custom designs. Outputs may be factory set between 1.5VDC to 56VDC which makes the eF175 ideal for all industrial, telecomms and IT applications. This continues Digital’s strategy of providing “off the shelf custom” power supplies with minimum “hassle factor”.

The PCB layout, transformer design and thermal management have all been derived from Digital’s experience of military projects. The ultra-high efficiency topology is a combination of a fixed high switching frequency, 100KHz, and full synchronous rectification on the two outputs. Conversion losses are further minimised by employing a single controller for the two outputs that allows up to 30A to be drawn from the main output and 5A from the auxiliary.
The eF175 features a worldwide universal input voltage range from 85 to 265VAC and employs active power factor correction to typically 0.98 at full load with either 110 or 230V inputs. All models are CE marked and certified to EN-60950, UL1950 and meet EN55022 class B for conducted emissions. MTBF is calculated to be greater than 300,000 hours. 250 LFM airflow is required for full output power, while convection cooling will provide 100W over the temperature range –5° to +50°C, after which the unit will derate linearly at 2.5% per degree up to 70°C. Input and output connections are made via standard molex connectors and terminal studs and all models are protected against over temperature, overload, over-voltage and output short-circuit.

The 1U chassis height and compact dimensions of the eF175-200 will release valuable space for end users functional circuitry and make systems better value for money. For system-integrators a wide range of command and control features are available as standard. These include, remote inhibit and on/off, power good signal, remote sense of load conditions, hot-swap capability and current-share via or-ing diodes. Typical applications include; telecomms, data networking, industrial computers, instrumentation, industrial control and process automation.

Jake Moir, MD of Digital comments, “The eF175-200 is an exciting extension to our high power density product range. We are constantly being asked for more power from smaller footprints and unusual output voltages. I am sure that this new addition to our “flexibility” range will be a best seller”.
