June, 2004

June 2004 – Available now from Digital Power, the Salisbury based power supply manufacturer, is the CPCI-AC-6U-400. A high efficiency, 400 watt Compact PCI power supply.

The CPCI-AC-6U-400 power supply conforms fully to the relevant Compact PCI specifications and offers “hot-swap” connection, output current sharing for N+1 redundant operation and requires no minimum load to function correctly. Backplane connection is via the standard Positronic 47 pin PICMG 2.11 connector. The power supply is fully safety agency approved to UL, CSA and TUV, is CE marked and conducted EMC meets EN5022 class A and FCC-68, Part-15.

Standard output voltage configuration is 5VDC@50A, 3.3VDC@80A, +12VDC@7A and –12VDC@1A. Input voltage is “universal” from 85-264VAC over the frequency range 47-63Hz and a 48VDC input version is also available for Telecomms applications. Full output power is available over a temperature range of –10 to +55 degC with just 15 CFM of cooling. The efficiency of the unit is better than 81% at 230VAC input minimising system cooling requirements and space saving dimensions of just 6U high by 8HP wide and 169.60mm depth ensure maximum space is ensured for functional system components while
Other standard features include, unlimited duration overload and short circuit protection, over-voltage and over-temperature protection, load sensing on 5VDC and 3.3VDC outputs, “enable”, “inhibit” and “power good” signals, front panel LED’s to indicate output and input power status and I2C data bus for remote monitoring and control.

Compact PCI system managers are generally able to monitor the status of the analogue and digital signal processing cards, disk drives etc. installed in any system. It is less common to be able to monitor the system power supply, arguably the most essential component in terms of system reliability.

Melanie O’Connor, Divisional Sales Manager of Digital comments “our compact PCI power supplies are gaining wide acceptance in the marketplace with both cabinet makers and end system users. Our IPMI card has been introduced in response to customer feedback and will dramatically enhance the user-friendliness of these products”

Digital Compact PCI power supplies may be used in applications such as; telecoms, test and measurement systems, instrumentation, and industrial control and computing.
